Eggs are considered one of the power foods with rich nutrition. Each day in our life sometimes the egg is filled into dishes with different way of cooking. By the simple way or complicated one in the kitchen, or in the relaxed state or rush hour, the egg always is the wonderful ingredient to contribute a nutritive meal to anyone.

We may always listen to a sentence “which came first, the chicken or the egg”. Simple sentence but it is related to philosophy. The sentence is mentioned about the question about the beginning time of universe or the origin of human kind. And nowadays, it is used as a conclusion sometimes to a matter that does not have the end. Or in some cases it is also the presence of an equilibrium state without controversy because the controversies are not easy to identify chicken or eggs came first.

Related to culinary, the egg is simpler than their presence in the philosophical sentence. There is the estimation of the time when the egg was used as food in human history. Or there are specific researches or studies of egg’s structure, nutrients contained and the advantages also disadvantages to human health. And for our review of these questions, there are some words related as below:

When the egg was used as food?

Base on the archaeological evidences, it was found out that the egg was used as food from the ancient time even more than that since as the prehistory. From the beginning till now, if meat on our plate is important, the egg is in the same situation. With the needs from the society and its development, birds and chicken were domesticated for meat and the egg too. It was said that chicken were presented in Egypt about 1500 BCE and gave the egg at that time while the egg appeared in food in Southeast  Asia and India at least 7500 BCE. The egg became more popular in the world from 17th century and the peak time of egg both production and consumption was in 19th century.

Nowadays, the egg is still one of the main elements in food using and an important part of agricultural development in the countries. It is forecasted that the need related to the egg continuously raises up to 2024 through the world. In the non-stop development of production and consumption of eggs in the world we have some typical points to view such as Asian countries supplied more than 50% of eggs compared with world egg production in 2013. Or The U.S was considered the leading countries where produce and consume the egg with more than 260 eggs per capita in 2015. And there are other countries where consume the egg in the top such as Japan, China, Ukraine, Mexico, Belarus, Netherland, Denmark and Russia.

Nutrition of the egg

The egg is rich in calories, carbohydrates, fat, protein, vitamins and minerals. There are more than 10 vitamins found out from egg such as Vitamin A, Vitamin D, Vitamin E, Vitamin K, Thiamine, Niacin etc. Beside more than 5 important minerals are found such as calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, sodium etc.

The rich nutrients from egg are good for human health but there are the disadvantages that the egg can give. There are some risk of diseases that can be created by using eggs such as raising cholesterol, increasing risk of diabetes type 2 and risk of heart disease, causing of contamination or food allergy.

The egg in culture

Beside the philosophy related to question about the origin of universe and human kind, there is very typical detail that emphasizes the role of the egg in human culture commonly – Easter eggs. There are different forms related to easter egg in the countries or local culture. The common point is that the egg is boiled and decorated base on color preferences, favorite art or symbols or icons painted by paint or color water.

There is also a negative sign of the egg in culture throughout the world. It is considered a weapon that can create the mess without harmfulness to people. The egg in some cases is thrown as the acts of sabotage or protest from the people who threw it.
