Chicken breast sticky rice

White meat and your health is one of the noteworthy topic to all of us. Anyone who love to maintain the health, tries to use white meat in the daily meal. There are different recipes with white meat but not all the time and all people satisfy with them. So there are more and more white meat recipes are found day by day and in which there is chicken breast sticky rice.

Chicken breast is the wonderful white meat. It is easy to make the dishes and combine with many ingredients to create the delicious meals in the kitchens. In the European or American kitchens, chicken breast popularly is used for stirring, grilling and for soups; while in Asian cuisine, chicken breast is used to fry, boil and make the floss. It is regularly contributed in some popular breakfast recipes as sticky rice or normal rice. Related to chicken breast sticky rice, it may be a new taste to many people.

Chicken breast sticky rice is also called the sticky rice with shredded chicken breast. There are different ways to make it. And there are different ingredients can be added together depend on the chefs who uses intentionally.

And in this article, chicken breast sticky rice is introduced in preparing with chicken breast floss. With this recipe, you may have one more flavor for your menu or healthy eating plan with white meat as chicken breast.

Prepared time: 4 hours

Cooking time: 45-50 minutes

Serve: 6-8 servings

For sticky rice
  • 500 gr sticky rice
  • 3-4 fragrant pandan leaves ( optional)
  • ½  teaspoon of salt
  • 1 pinch of turmeric powder
For chicken breast filling
  • 300 gr chicken breast
  • 1 teaspoon of soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon of salt


  • 1+1/2  teaspoon of salt  in the case soy sauce is not to be used
  • 1/3  teaspoon of black pepper spice (dried and ground)
  • ½ teaspoon of chopped fine red onion
  • ½ teaspoon of chopped fine garlic
  • ¼ teaspoon of five spice
  • Some slices of ginger
  • 1 spoon of red onion sliced
For chicken breast floss
  • 200 gr chicken breast
  • 1 teaspoon of cooking oil
  • 1 teaspoon of salt or 2 teaspoon of fish sauce
  • Soak the sticky rice with water for 4 hours firstly.
  • Mix the spices with chicken breast and let them to wait for 20 minutes.
  • Fry red onion sliced
For chicken breast filling
  • Place the chicken breast absorbed spices into a deep pan with water and some ginger sliced. Boil it for 17 minutes or until it is cooked.
  • Take it out of the pan and let it cool and dry. Shred the chicken breast.
For chicken breast floss
  • Cut chicken breast with bite size pieces or bigger than bite size pieces possible.
  • Add a teaspoon of salt into the cutting chicken breast.
  • Fry cutting chicken with some water till the time it is cooked. Take it out and let it cool.
  • Pound lightly the cooked chicken breast and then shred it fine.
  • Fry shredded chicken till the time it is dry but not too dry. In the process of frying, you can add some teaspoons chicken boiled water in sequence into the pan to keep it not to be burned. Or you may fry with low heat. By this way it takes you longer time.
  • You also taste the chicken floss and add fish sauce to suit your flavor. In the case you do not use fish sauce, you may dissolve salt in the chicken boiled water before you add this water into the floss while frying.
For steaming sticky rice
  • Chicken breast filling and chicken floss are ready, you may start to steam the sticky rice.
  • Soaked sticky rice will be added with a pinch of turmeric powder and salt. The turmeric powder will bring to you a nice color of sticky rice after steaming. Pay attention that you should add just a small pinch of turmeric powder to make the sticky rice to turn to light yellow only.

In Asian cuisine, to make a yellow sticky rice in the chicken sticky rice, the mixture of chicken fat and turmeric is used to add into the sticky rice when steaming. However in this recipe, we do not use this mixture to limit the fat in the dish.

  • The sticky rice is ready, put the pandan leaves on the bottom of the steamed pan and steam. In the process of steaming, you may add some chicken boiled water into the sticky rice each 5-7 minutes till the time the rice is cooked. This will help the sticky rice to be fragrant and spiced.
For serving
  • Your sticky rice is done well, take it out. Place cooked sticky rice on a plate.
  • Add chicken breast floss over the cooked sticky rice and shredded chicken breast and then fried red onion.
  • Enjoy your sticky rice warmly. If you love to have the strong flavor, you may use soy sauce and chili sauce together.
